The Israel- Palestine Conflict

The Israel- Palestine Conflict

In this video I will be going over the continious conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis and talking about how it is important today.

– I accidentally misspoke and said this conflict has been going on for hundreds of years well it only has been going on for around 80-90 years and that the Six Day war took place in 1948 when it in fact took place in 1967. The war that took place in 1948 was the Arab-Israeli War

You should’ve better distinguished the difference between state from a US context and a global one. California is obviously NOT a country (as much as we’d like it to be lmao), as the international concept of “state” refers to a sovereign nation. Don’t misinform viewers.

I am trying to use a metaphor in order to help high school students better understand and better relate to the splitting of a country that they aren’t familiar with. Metaphors don’t have to be perfect and many high school students can better relate to California splitting into two rather than Israel.

but you still didn’t address the point here which is the definition of a sovereign state vs. a US state, and having that clarified is fundamental toward understanding IR…your use of “state” in the video is confusing

    1. The 6 Days War did not happen in 1948, it happened in 1967. Additionally, it was not what got Israel its land. The 6 Days War was a conflict that resulted in Israeli occupation of the Sinai peninsula from Egypt. The Israeli’s did not fight to gain their land. It was given to them against the will of the Palestineans by the UN, which was an infringement upon national sovereignty. They did, however, fight very hard to keep it.
    2. The 1 State solution would not misrepresent the ethnic and political majority. Muslims/Arabs make up 17% of the population of Israel, not the majority.
    3. The 2 State solution isn’t as simple as the Palestineans get control of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, that’s just what Palestine controls now, they used to have more and are still fighting for more.
    4. The idea that Netanyahu’s gap in terms is “odd” is kinda irrelevant to the situation. Getting on the edge of conspiracy theories there.
    5. Netanyahu did not create the idea of Israel being a Jewish state, it was created with that in mind. However, what has changed is the level of religion involved, it went from being a Jewish secular state to being a Jewish religious state.

I think this site has good potential, just make sure you fact-check simple issue like this.

The main point of this website is to make very complex foreign policy issues approachable to high school students in under 10 minutes. There are indeed a number of appropriate topics I’ve glossed over or grossly simplified to fit the format and appreciate your more fulsome understanding of the issues. One point you make to respond too, however, a Jewish state per say may be in conflict with 25% of the population who, depending on how implemented, would likely not have a democratic experience – further if the West Bank and Gaza are part of the one state solution the issue of a majority Jewish state is not clear.
